Fun in the sun

We at Islandstylee.com have done a little research on a few extra-festival-activities and would like to share them with you.

Diving by the Pitons

So the St. Lucia Jazz Festival is here and we are all looking forward to meeting up with all who will be there to enjoy the festivities. As the concert schedule allows for a little exploration we at Islandstylee.com have done a little research on a few extra-festival-activities and would like to share them with you.

St. Lucia might look like a tiny dot in the Eastern Caribbean but once you touch down there is a lot to do! With 238 square miles to explore and with a combination of beaches, forests and mountains there is a lot choose from for your enjoyment.

For the physically fit there are the picturesque Pitons, twin peaks reaching out for you to come and climb. Petit Piton is the smaller of the two but quite steep so climbing is not sanctioned. But taking you to higher heights is Gros Piton. Reaching 2,619 feet it is still a challenge and a day trip, taking three to  six hours each way. It is advisable to start in the cool of early morning so you can complete your hike before nightfall. It is a guided tour at a cost of $25 per person and well worth the price. Make sure to have your camera with you!

Still in the heights is the thrill ride zip lining. No, you cannot descend Gros Piton via zip line! Not yet anyway, but it still takes you through the canopy of this tropical rain forest and gives a bird’s eye view of the natural wonders of this island. A series of “zips” ranging up to a hundred feet above the canopy are designed to give you a thrill ride with stops where you can catch your breath and take photos of the local plants and birds. And remember, no flip flops! There are some tours that offers a combination of zip line and aerial tram rides, similar views but a little more variety in the delivery so the choice is yours as to how to get the adrenaline going.

Out on the ocean the Caribbean and Atlantic offers a number of aquatic adventures. From whale and dolphin watching to snorkeling and deep-sea fishing, it’s all here. Where better to go windsurfing, sailing, para-sailing or water-skiing than St. Lucia? And of course there is always the beach where one can just relax and really just do nothing! Dancing up a storm to the live music of Shaggy and NE-YO does take it’s toll...

Then there are spas galore. Most hotels do have a top rated spa on property so this will add to the rejuvenation efforts so you will be ready for what the festival has to offer. Choose from a huge variety of treatments, from the conventional to the weird and wonderful! A bonus of being on St. Lucia is that some of the spas use the island's natural resources - banana leaf, volcanic minerals, papaya, rainforest plants - in their treatments. The island boasts a drive in volcano where one can enjoy therapeutic dips in the sulfuric baths. Great for body scrubs...

There are several tour operators to choose from if you would like to do some research or bookings before getting there and if you would like to experience a little more about Saint Lucia feel free to check out our videos here on islandstylee.com
